If there was ever a time in the modern era to start growing food--it is NOW. The world-wide financial melt-down is destined to bring with it hyperinflation and food shortages. Aquaponics is our answer. Aquaponics is a hybrid technique combining the best of aqua-culture (growing fish) and hydroponics (growing veggies without soil), and it’s completely organic because the fish waste is your natural fertilizer and that means no pesticides. Aquaponics USA is dedicated to sharing information, developing products and bringing awareness of this life sustaining technology to every American home because it’s time Americans declare their Food independence.
Aquaponics USA-- Feeding America, One Family At A Time!
Time
To Grow Food!

THESE ARE THE FISH--one of the best species of fish to grow because they are hardy and resilient--Tilapia. They are also a delicious mild white fish. You grow them in the fish tank.
The Aquaponics USA compact food growing system comes complete, ready for fish and plants. You’ll need a water source, a drain and electricity. If you live in a tropical climate, you can put it on your patio.
If not, place it in your garage and add our grow-light kit. Or put it in a pantry, basement, closet or shed. Be creative.
All the space you need is a 4x6 foot area. If you want to grow more food, add an additional Grow Bed or build a greenhouse to contain multiple units.
This is a call to every American to step up and embrace the change that’s coming. You still have time to set up your own Aquaponics USA food growing system even if you only have a terrace to do it on. The time and money you spend setting it up will be so worth your effort when the price of food goes sky high. You will feel so good feeding your family healthy, organic food that you grow yourself. What a beautiful teaching to pass on to your children and grandchildren.
Aquaponics USA is so much more than a web-based business.
IT’S A MOVEMENT--
A MOVEMENT TOWARDS SELF SUSTAINABILITY.
Our children deserve hormone free, pesticide free, GMO free organic food! For more information call 760-298-3755.
The signs are clear. We can no longer depend on our Government to take care of us. The residents of New Orleans got that message loud and clear. Now, we’re all getting it as we watch our entire financial system crumble before our eyes while our government leaders bail out their Wall Street buddies with monetary policies that in one year or so are going to catapult us into hyper-inflation like clowns out of a canon.
THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN--
Environmental Requirements: Any farmer knows there’s a time to plant and a time to harvest. That time is dictated by the seasons. But we’re talking about feeding your family year round regardless of the time of year. So unless you live in a season-less, tropical climate, you need to place your food-growing system in a protected environment where you control the weather. This system comes complete for those lucky enough to live in the tropics. For the rest of us, we have all the add-ons you will need to create your own tropical paradise including water heaters and grow lights. Perhaps you would want to build or purchase a Greenhouse so you can take advantage of the sunlight that nature provides for free. These requirements are discussed in more detail on the Water & Fish pages.

We Americans have long been known for our independence. We’re a nation of independent self-starting, highly ingenious people who have been the leaders of the world for several decades now. It looks like we’re quickly losing our position as financial leaders and our dollar may even lose its status as the world’s reserve currency. Economic forecasters are predicting even harder times ahead; but we can rise from the ashes of the financial fires that are burning through our bank accounts, retirement plans and portfolios. We can follow in the steps of the Aussies where most of the Aquaponic food growing is going on. We can become Independent of the big food growing corporations whose pesticides and GMO experiments are threatening our health and lives. And we can survive the food shortages that are destined to come our way when hyperinflation charges at us like a runaway train. This shift into a near-depression economy can be a blessing in disguise because it’s pushing us to do something that hasn’t been done by the average American family since the last depression--

Our Greenhouse In Action: On July 4th, this summer, 2009, we planted our first seeds in our seedling trays. We felt that was the perfect day to start our life as people who are “Food Independent”. We placed the trays into the greenhouse to germinate until August 1st when we planted the seedlings into their aquaponic grow beds. We have one system like the FSG-1 pictured above and two systems with double grow beds we call FGS-2’s. Here’s what we’ve got growing today, September 20th , 2009. We will update these pictures as time and seasons pass and other vegetables appear. Some, like tomatoes, are slower to fruit than others. This is a dynamic situation. We’re always planting and the veggies are always growing. We’re also learning about growing food as neither of the founders of Aquaponics USA have ever planted food before.
This is also Grow Bed #2 but it’s around the back side of it. We planted too many cucumbers as well. The peas died out as the squash and cucumbers took all the nutrients. Yes, we’re learning.
You’re looking into the large squash plant you see at your left, and here they come. We now realize we went overboard on the squash. The tomatoes had to compete for sun. They managed and are flowering now.
This is Grow Bed #2. It’s part of a two bed system with Grow Bed #3 behind it. We planted squash, tomatoes, cucumbers and peas in this Grow Bed. The tomato plants managed to grow up out of the middle of all that squash.
Here’s another view of the same Grow Bed #1. On this side we also planted Spinach. The climbers are the melons. They’re going to be mostly what you see when you enter the greenhouse soon.
This is Grow Bed #1. It is our single-bed, FGS-1 system like the one you see without plants above. We put it in last and planted tomatoes and melons on Sept. 5, 2009.
This is Grow Bed #4. One of its inhabitants is beans.
This is Grow Bed #5. It’s a continuous flood bed with lettuce, basil and cilantro.
Here’s a close-up of Cilantro from Grow Bed #5. Salads are great with a dash of it.
Grace, one of the Aquaponics USA founders is holding some beans. These deep purple beans turn green while cooking.
Welcome to the Aquaponics USA Greenhouse, summer of 2009. Come on in for a visit.
Here is Tank #2 . It sits under Grow Bed #2 These guys are just fingerlings, but they’re growing fast. The white tube things are their houses. They love hanging out inside them. This entire aquaponic process has everything to do with these guys.
Grace picks beans for dinner. Remember, she’s never grown food before in her life. This whole process starting from seeds is miraculous from her point of view.
Here are some beans from Grow Bed #4. Grow Bed #4 also has Broccoli and Eggplant in progress.
Here’s the other side of Grow Bed #5 with Cilantro and Basil showing.
Keep Watching This Page: As explained earlier, this section of our Home Page is dynamic and keeps changing. The fish grow, the vegetables grow, appear, disappear, new ones are planted. It’s the on-going adventure of being an Aquaponics USA farmer. Ultimately, it’s all about balance between the fish and the plants.
Because this is a no dirt, high water saturation system, your vegetables grow faster than they would grow in a regular soil garden. You can actually watch them grow from one day to the next. Lettuce has regularly demonstrated a growing time of 28 days. That’s less than a month. You can pick individual leaves and allow the plant to replenish itself or you can pull out the entire plant for eating. Aquaponics is a symbiotic system in which the fish feed the plants and the plants clean the fish water. For the price of fish food, you can provide your family with fresh organic protein and vegetables with minimal effort.
